Description

The GDS850 can perform a depth profile analysis (QDP) continuously from nanometers to hundreds of micrometers helping in the identification of potential problems with your materials (including coatings, layers, and thermochemical treatments). The GDS850A provides the complete chemical composition (ppm to 100%) from the surface to the substrate in only a few minutes. All elements are acquired simultaneously, increasing sample throughput while minimizing cost-per-analysis.

The GDS850A provides advanced technology to enhance your lab’s performance for both process control and research/development investigations for elemental determination in ferrous and nonferrous materials.

Operation

Glow Discharge Spectrometry utilizes a low-pressure, non-thermal process in which material is uniformly sputtered from the sample surface by a stream of argon ions. Other methods may preferentially attack the sample surface and do not always provide a representative sample to analyze. In GDS technology, the atomized sputtered material is then excited in a low-pressure plasma discharge, away from the sample surface.  The non-thermal nature of the sampling process makes this an excellent technique for routine and difficult applications. This instrument offers a spectral range from 120 to 800 nm and may be configured with up to 58 channels. The GDS850 is configured and calibrated at the factory, samples can be analyzed immediately after installation. Only LECO provides this level of customization and customer support. Sample types include bulk, sheet, wire, pressed, and mounted samples. Sample holders are available to meet non-standard sample forms. Thin sheets (down to 0.02 mm  in thickness ) may be successfully analyzed using a backplate and cooling puck
