Enhanced Metabolite Profiling: Hard and Soft Ionization High Resolution Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry

Answering the metabolomics problem of characterizing labile molecules present in low concentrations is achieved here. By using soft ionization and high-quality accurate mass data generated by Pegasus® GC-HRT technology robust formula determinations and library database comparisons are achieved. The advantage of this approach enables confident identification of many analytes that would not have been possible with an EI spectrum and library match alone. Equally, HR Time of Flight (TOF) mass spectrometry provides a reliable mechanism for analyte identification and confident interpretation of biochemical pathways. The value of both EI and chemical ionization—high resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HR-CI) for identifying analytes in complex metabolomic samples is described.
